Although best known for his legendary film scores, John Williams has enjoyed a remarkable career as a concert composer. Alongside music for the world's most beloved films, he has written celebrated concertos and orchestral works for many of the world's leading musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Emanuel Ax.
One of the Most Honoured Composers in History
With five Academy Awards and 54 Academy Award nominations—more than any other living person and second only to Walt Disney in Oscar history—John Williams is among the most celebrated composers of all time. He is also the only person ever nominated for an Academy Award in seven consecutive decades.
The Boston Pops Connection
From 1980 to 1993, John Williams served as Music Director of the Boston Pops Orchestra, succeeding Arthur Fiedler. Together, Fiedler and Williams transformed the Boston Pops into one of the world's best-known orchestras by making symphonic music accessible through film music, Broadway, light classics, and popular repertoire. Williams continues to serve as the orchestra's Laureate Conductor.
